A surge in traffic accidents was reported for Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. CHP statistics show up to three times the number of accidents occurred during the stormy weather. An official for the agency says the wet weather is not responsible for the accidents, and that most collisions were due to excessive speed for roadway conditions. The CHP would like to remind motorists that most accidents can be avoided by reducing speed and increasing distances between vehicles.
