A Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputy arrested a suspected car thief early Thursday. A deputy doing extra patrols in the parking lot of Home Depot on 41st Avenue at around 3:00 am when he found Corey Clarke sleeping in a 2018 Dodge Challenger. The license plate on the vehicle belonged on a different car, a VIN check determined the car was stolen. A search of the vehicle uncovered a small amount of meth and heroin as well as identity theft materials. Blank credit cards, about a dozen fake ID’s, and credit card making equipment were among the items found. Clarke was arrested and booked into Santa Cruz County jail
