A trial, to determine if a convicted child rapist should be released, is scheduled to continue in a Santa Cruz County Superior Court room this morning. 66 year-old Steven Soboyan, who is reportedly in failing health, was convicted of raping and molesting a number of children who were strangers to him, and others who were the children of women with whom he had relationships. A psychologist, with the California Department Of State Hospitals, feels that Soboyan would be likely to offend again if he were released from the State Hospital (where he has been incarcerated for a number of years). Soboyan’s defense attorney says that his client is a broken down man on a breathing machine, who has served his time, and is no danger to others. This trial is slated to continue at 10:30 this morning in Department 3.
