A KEY FIGURE IN SHAPING PALMA HIGH SCHOOL’S SPORTS PROGRAM HAS DIED. AFTER BEING AT THE RABOBANK STADIUM ON FRIDAY (WHILE PREPARING FOR BOTH A DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL GAME, A SUNDAY SPORTS BANQUET), ATHLETIC DIRECTOR STEVE CLAYTON DIED UNEXPECTEDLY SUNDAY MORNING. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE AND SON, AS WELL AS OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS. CLAYTON’S FATHER PREDECEASED HIM BY JUST 2 WEEKS.
CLAYTON, WHO GREW UP IN SALINAS, COACHED AND TAUGHT AT PALMA HIGH SCHOOL, AFTER GRADUATING FROM THE SCHOOL IN 1976.
