THE NATION’S FIRST STATEWIDE BAN ON PLASTIC BAGS HAS BEEN SIGNED INTO LAW BY CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR JERRY BROWN. THAT MEANS THAT PLASTIC BAGS WILL BE PHASED OUT OF LARGE GROCERY STORES BY NEXT YEAR; AND OUT OF PHARMACIES AND CONVENIENCE STORES IN 2016. THE STORES WILL BE ABLE TO IMPOSE A 10 CENT FEE TO CUSTOMERS WHO GET PAPER BAGS.
