Governor brown announced yesterday that California lawmakers will need to cut nearly a-billion dollars from general spending, after revenue fell short of projections.  The bulk of the spending cuts outlined by the governor focus on education.  Of the more-than-980-million dollars the governor said would be cut from state spending, over 600-million is for college and k-through-12th-grade- funding.  The so-called “trigger cuts” were agreed to when the budget was approved in june.  The action comes as the governor is asking voters to support an increase in sales and other taxes.
