The first physical steps are being done toward the construction of the Van Buren Senior Affordable Housing Project in Monterey. Demolition began last week with the removal of buildings on the city-owned properties where the housing will be constructed. The 18 brand new affordable rental units will be for extremely low, very low, and low-income seniors. The project, which is located near downtown businesses, the library and many senior services will include a community room, an exercise room and a large patio. It is expected to take nearly a year to complete.
