THE HOLLISTER POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS YET TO ISSUE ANY CITATIONS USING THE SOCIAL HOST ORDINANCE, WHICH WAS ENACTED IN 2010. THE ORDINANCE TARGETS PARENTS WHO ENCOURAGE BAD BEHAVIOR TO THEIR CHILDREN. SINCE IT’S ENACTMENT, POLICE HAVE CITED PEOPLE PREVIOUSLY FOR POSSESSION OF ALCOHOL AND CONTRIBUTING TO THE DELINQUENCY OF MINORS, BUT HAVEN’T HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO UTILIZE IT. IF UTILIZED, IT WOULD ADD FINES OF 500 DOLLARS FOR A FIRST OFFENSE, 750 FOR A SECOND OFFENSE, AND 1000 DOLLARS FOR ALL FOLLOWING OFFENSES, WITH THE ADDITION OF POSSIBLE MISDEMEANOR CHARGES AND JAIL TIME. POLICE SAY THAT PART OF THE PROBLEM WITH ENFORCEMENT IS THE NECESSARY STAFF TIME TO DO IT.
