Pg and e officials have announced a proposal to allow customers to opt-out of having a smart meter. The utility has been working on the plan in the face of strong opposition to the wireless meters from some customers. The proposal would allow customers to use a pg and e-approved analog meter to record energy usage. An initial fee would be charged for those that opt-out, and a smaller monthly fee is expected to be applied. The fees could be waived for those that qualify. The proposal must be approved by the California public utilities commission before customers can opt-out.
