Santa Cruz Police were led on a slow speed chase yesterday evening that resulted in the discovery of a large amount of marijuana and a handgun. Officers attempted to pull over a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Diego Cruz Alvarez for expired registration around 5:30pm. Alvarez did not pull over, and drove for several blocks before pulling into a driveway on the 700 block of Windsor Street. A search of the vehicle revealed a significant amount of marijuana. A handgun and loaded magazine were found in the trunk. Alvarez was arrested on charges of suspicion of evading police, possession of marijuana for sale, and multiple gun violations.
