The brutal death of a central coast elephant seal has prompted authorities to offer a 20-thousand dollar reward for information.
The elephant seal was discovered last September near San Simeon… within the boundaries of the of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Investigators say the pinniped was shot and gutted with its tail and fins removed.
Elephant seals and other marine mammals fall under the protection of the “marine mammal protection act” and harming these mammals carries of fine of up to 28-thousand dollars.
