A group of students at San Jose state is protesting the Santa Clara county district attorney’s office for dragging its feet in clearing marijuana convictions.
Since prop 64 passed in 20-16, hundreds of thousands of criminal convictions for weed became eligible for expungement. But according to the group “students against mass incarceration” many marijuana users are still under a cloud of criminal convictions because their records have not been cleared.
Assistant D-A David Angel says his office has cleared hundreds of convictions but they’re waiting for the state department of justice to release a list of all those eligible to be cleared.
