THERE IS AN EVER GROWING POPULATION OF SALVADORANS IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, ACCORDING TO HECTOR PERLA, A PROFESSOR OF LATINO STUDIES AT U-C-S-C. OF THE APPROXIMATELY FIVE THOUSAND CENTRAL AMERICANS LIVING IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, ABOUT 70 PER-CENT ARE FROM EL SALVADOR. THE SALVADORAN COMMITTEE OF SANTA CRUZ COUNTY WAS FORMED IN MARCH, TO GIVE A VOICE TO THIS UNDER-REPRESENTED COMMUNITY. LAST WEEK, WATSONVILLE CITY COUNCIL GAVE THE O-K TO BECOME A SISTER CITY WITH SAN PEDRO MASAHUAT (masa-WHAT), IN ORDER TO GIVE RECOGNITION TO THE INCREASING POPULATION OF SALVADORANS.
