Governor Brown has signed a bill into law, that allows county governments to tap additional federal funds, to provide health insurance to children. S.b. 36 was authored by local state senator joe simitian. The law allows counties to seek federal funds, to cover children whose family income is as much as 4-hundred percent of the federal poverty level. The increased eligibility was enacted as part of the health care reform passed in 2010. the new law clears the way for counties to adjust their health plans to reflect the change, and allow them to apply for the funds. It becomes effective January 1st, 2012.
