A big-rig fire led to the closure of the southbound lanes of Highway 101 this evening at the Boronda exit in Salinas. Traffic is being diverted off the highway onto Boronda, while firefighters work to put the fire out. The northbound lanes were also closed for a time just before 6 p.m. The southbound lanes are expected to remain closed until the fire has been put out, the remains of the big-rig have been cleared from the roadway, and any damage done to the highway is repaired.
