The roman catholic diocese of monterey agreed to a settlement this week, with the victim that claimed he was abused by a priest in 2005. the diocese of monterey admitted no wrongdoing in the settlement, and reverend Edward fitz-henry remains suspended from his duties. The settlement comes despite the fact that monterey county authorities decided not to pursue criminal charges against fitz-henry. The diocese is forwarding his case to church authorities in Rome, with the recommendation that he be removed from the priesthood. That has lead fitz-henry to file his own legal claim against the diocese, because he says church authorities did not defend him. Fitz-henry was also implicated in a 1992 case of abuse.
