The local branch of a national organization is working to improve its services for homeless people in south Santa Cruz county. The Salvation Army plans to have a Day Center by the end of the year where homeless people could take showers, do laundry, and have mailboxes, lockers, and internet access. To do that though, the Salvation Army will have to take back the buildings where Teen Challenge Monterey Bay has been running an Overnight Homeless Shelter for the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army wants to make the change because they have seen a decline in the need for overnight accommodations, but an increase in day-use needs in the Watsonville area.
