September 11, 2015: Phone Scam Involving Sheriff’s Office in Santa Cruz County

(08:14) SANTA CRUZ COUNTY – The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community about a phone scam. Officials say an individual posing as a Sheriff’s Office employee has been calling residents, telling them they missed jury duty, have warrants and owe fines. The scammer then demands payment over the phone or threatens arrest. The Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public that it does not make phone calls of this nature. The community is being encouraged to report phone scams or suspicious phone calls online, at IC3.gov . (S.G.)
