Second Harvest Food Bank celebrated its 40th anniversary on Friday, with a crowd of more than 250 people gathering at its Watsonville warehouse. A barbecue meal was set up in the parking lot for all to enjoy. The founder of the organization, Michael Alexander flew in from Florida just to attend the event. With its creation, the organization became the first food bank in California and the second such cooperative in the nation. Over the past 40 years the Second Harvest Food Bank has served tens of thousands of needy families all over Santa Cruz County and California.
