A plan to merge several fire departments on the Monterey Peninsula, has been delayed after a federal grant was awarded to the Seaside Fire Department. The nearly $812,000 grant would fund 3 firefighter positions for 2-years. The grant allows the fire department to reorganize however, Seaside city manager Ray Corpuz said this week that a possible merger is still an option. Seaside firefighters initially criticized the merger saying city residents would not receive adequate fire protection if the merger went through.
