Sea Otters could reclaim SF Bay – except for the sharks 12-19-19 05:50

A new study from Sonoma state University finds hope for the endangered southern sea otter. The university predicts the population could more than triple from about 3,000 to 10,000 if the animals were to repopulate San Francisco Bay.

But there is a huge obstacle to otters repopulating San Francisco Bay. To get to the Bay, the otters must get past a population of Great White Sharks that eat otters and live near the Golden Gate Bridge.

But if otters were able to get past the sharks, researchers believe they would thrive as the Bay’s top predator.
