A YOUNG SEA LION, THAT WAS RESCUED IN JULY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BE RETURNED TO THE WILD. THAT’S BECAUSE “WHIRLYBIRD” SUFFERED A GUNSHOT WOUND TO HIS FACE THAT DESTROYED HIS RIGHT EYE AND DAMAGED HIS LEFT. ALTHOUGH HE WAS FOUND LISTLESS AND UNRESPONSIVE ON THE STAIRS LEADING TO THE BEACH NEAR CORCORAN LAGOON, “WHIRLYBIRD” IS NOW HOLDING HIS OWN AT THE MARINE MAMMAL CENTER.
A HOME, WHERE HE CAN RECEIVE PROPER LONG-TERM CARE, IS BEING SOUGHT.
