Officials  with  Santa  Cruz  County Public Health recommend that community members (and visitors) take the following precautions to help prevent the spread of illness:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water, rubbing for at least 20 seconds;
    • If soap and water are not available; use at least 60% alcohol-based sanitizer;
  • Don’t touch your face with unwashed hands;
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow, not your hand, or use a tissue and discard;
    • Avoid shaking hands;

    • Regularly clean surfaces touched by many people using normal household cleaners;
    • and if you are sick, self-quarantine yourself and Stay Home).

Aside from that, people in the most vulnerable populations are asked to limit their outings.  Those people are 80 and older, or those with underlying health conditions such as Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes, Chronic Lung Diseases, and those with ‘severely weakened immune systems’.
