Santa Cruz County leaders are considering creating a new process to help local businesses receive contracts. The proposal would allow companies in Santa Cruz County to match a lower bid for work, that came from outside the county. The local company must have made a bid within 5-percent of the outside bid, in order to be eligible to match it. The county doles out roughly 21-million dollars a year in purchasing contracts. The preference amendment could be voted on next month.
