Surveys of 117 people leaving last month’s Our Water Our Future in Santa Cruz shows community division over desalination. The survey questioned 25 percent of event goers and found that although desalination was taken off the list of preferred city council options due to political pressure, it still ranks as a highly viable solution for a high percentage of those polled; however a sizable number were strongly opposed to it as a water strategy. The Civinomics website where community members can view and comment on all water proposals, reported low interest in desalination. On Wednesday the city council decided there is enough support for desalination to include it as one of the thirteen alternatives still up for review on Civinomics.
