If you’re out and about hiking in the Santa Cruz mountains over this Christmas break … beware of ticks.
The Santa Cruz county mosquito and vector control and the state public health department are warning folks about the “western black legged tick.” Winter is the season for this particular tick… that often carries Lyme disease.
To prevent getting bit by a tick… it’s a good idea to take the following precautions:
Wear long sleeves and long pants to completely cover skin.
Stay in the center of the trail and avoid long grass… that goes for pets as well.
Do a tick check following your hike.
