Santa Cruz City Council members have voted 5-2 on the first reading of a replacement version of the Santa Cruz temporary outdoor living ordinance. The new ordinance, known as Camping Services And Standards Ordinance, which would need to rounds of approvals to become law….would ban outdoor sleeping everywhere except at sites designated by the city for overnight camping. One councilmember, who voted for the new ordinance (and has some experience with grant writing), said if approved, the new ordinance should put the city in a good position to compete for a share of the funding the governor is trying to put through to aid the un-housed.
