SANTA CRUZ POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A WEDNESDAY EVENING SHOOTING IN A MOTEL PARKING LOT. OFFICERS SAY THEY WERE ALERTED TO THE SHOOTING BY WITNESSES FLAGGING DOWN PATROL UNITS. REPORTEDLY OCCUPANTS OF WHITE CAR OPENED FIRE ON 3 MEN IN FRONT OF A MOTEL NEAR CANFIELD AVENUE AND SAN LORENZO BOULEVARD AT AROUND 7:00 P-M. POLICE ARRIVING ON SCENE GAVE PURSUIT TO THE FLEEING SUSPECT VEHICLE UNTIL ABANDONING THE CHASE ON HIGHWAY 17 OUT OF PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERNS. A LOADED PISTOL THROWN FROM THE VEHICLE WAS RECOVERED. NO ONE WAS INJURED BY THE GUNFIRE WHICH STRUCK SEVERAL OCCUPIED ROOMS. ANYONE WITH ANY INFORMATION ON THE SHOOTING IS ENCOURAGED TO CONTACT THE SANTA CRUZ POLICE DEPARTMENT.
