From a Facebook post by the Santa Cruz sheriff’s department comes this announcement:
“What has four legs, fur, and an excellent nose? Our new K-9!” the post reads.
Named Jax, the dog is a 15-month-old yellow lab who will be starting at the end of this week with his handler, Corrections Officer, Marra Uva.
Jax specializes in narcotics detection and will be dedicated to the corrections facilities with the duty of finding contraband inside all custodial settings and outside before it comes in.
“They’ve already done really well and are going to have a very long and successful career finding contraband in the jail,” said Jax’s trainer, Marc Rispoli.
