Santa cruz city leaders have responded to growing calls to put the fate of a desalination plant in the hands of city voters. An ordinance is set to be presented at the city council meeting on February 28th, which would require voter approval for a desalination plant. The move comes the same week as a group of santa cruzans began an effort to put the matter on the ballot this November. If the ordinance is approved, the measure will not be needed. A draft environmental impact report on the proposed plant is expected to be presented sometime in april.
