A Santa Cruz man had a close call over the weekend when he was forced to land his plane on a busy highway.
Dirk Kanngiesser (can-gy-ser) reported a rough running engine on his single engine piper pa-28 and landed the plane on highway 99 in Modesto.
After touch down… the plane burst into flames but not before the pilot escaped with only minor injuries. All southbound lanes of traffic on highway 99 were blocked for a couple of hours. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
