A proposal to allow dogs off leash on a Santa Cruz County beach won’t be moving forward after a meeting last night with the Parks and Recreation Commission. The Commission instead voted to retain and maintain current leash laws, and not to take action on a proposal to allow off-leash dogs at the beach by Corcoran Lagoon. Parks and Rec Commissioners suggested the group advocating the off-leash proposal look into an off-leash permit process, where owners would pay a fee to the county if their dog meets certain safety criteria. The Commission also voted to study other properties that would be identified as possible off-leash area.
