SANTA CRUZ POLICE ARRESTED A DERANGED, MACHETE WIELDING WOMAN ON SATURDAY. AT ABOUT 1:30 AN OFFICER WALKING THE 8-HUNDRED BLOCK OF PACIFIC AVENUE CAME UPON A COMMOTION BETWEEN 2 WOMEN, AS HE INTERVENED 1 OF THE WOMEN HELD A MACHETE TO HER OWN THROAT AND MOVED INTO A STORE. POLICE EVACUATED THE STORE, AND SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO PERSUADE THE WOMAN TO DISARM HERSELF. AT 1 POINT THE WOMAN MADE A MOVE TO HARM HERSELF AND OFFICERS USED RUBBER BULLETS AND A STUN GUN TO TAKE THE 24-YEAR OLD INTO CUSTODY. THE WOMAN WHO IS KNOWN TO POLICE WAS TRANSPORTED TO DOMINICAN HOSPITAL FOR A 72 HOUR MENTAL EVALUATION; UPON HER RELEASE SHE IS FACING ARREST FOR OUTSTANDING FELONY WARRANTS.
