Two popular surf breaks in Santa Cruz County were recognized yesterday after being approved as a World Surfing Reserve. Representatives from the Save the Waves Coalition officially announced that a Santa Cruz surf zone was one of four zones found around the world. The designated surf zone encompasses 7-miles of coast extending southward from the Western Reef Breaks at Natural Bridges State Park to Opal Cliffs, just east of Pleasure Point, including Steamer Lane, Pleasure Point, the Hook and Shark’s Cove.
