CAL FIRE CREWS WERE BUSY IN THE SANTA CRUZ MOUTAINS LAST NIGHT (THURS). AT ABOUT 5:30 P-M GROUND CREWS HAD CONTAINED 2 FIRES THAT TOGETHER CHARRED ABOUT A QUARTER ACRE OF VEGETATION. THE BLAZES WERE ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT A THOUSAND FEET APART NEAR HIGHWAYS 9 AND 236. A 3RD FIRE BROKE OUT ABOUT AN HOUR LATER NEAR CHINA GRADE AND HIGHWAY 236. AN AIRTANKER WAS USED TO CONTAIN THE WILD FIRE TO 90 SQUARE FEET. FIRE CREWS WERE EXPECTED TO BE ON ALL FIRE SITES UNTIL ABOUT 10 P-M.
