In a 4 to 3 vote, the santa cruz city council decided on Tuesday, to cut funding to social services programs by 10-percent. The cuts come as city leaders continue to whittle away at what once was an 8-million dollar deficit. That shortfall now stands at 1-point-6 million dollars, and a final budget is expected to be passed close to that mark, on july 12th. That would require the city council to look at further cuts in about 6-months. Despite the overall cuts to social programs, council members did agree to allocate 5-thousand dollars to the santa cruz aids project, and 1-thousand dollars to the vista center for the blind and visually impaired. Those non-profits had previously had their funding cut).
