(12:20)WATSONVILLE- The Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office is now requiring all jail volunteers to sign a liability waiver. Following a recent non injury accident, facility administrators implemented the new policy for all non-contracted jail visitors. Many of the jail’s 61 life skills and educational programs are run by volunteers, and a lot are staffed by religious groups. Following the announcement of the new policy , volunteers at nine parishes were ordered by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Monterey — which covers central cost counties — not to sign the document, these volunteers are no longer allowed at the facilities. Jail officials say that most of the programs are un affected by the policy.
