IT MAY NOT SEEM LIKE IT BUT ACCORDING TO THE SANTA CRUZ COUNTY HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT CHRONIC HOMELESSNESS IN OUR COUNTY HAD DROPPED ALMOST A THIRD IN THE PAST TWO YEARS.
A CENSUS REPOT RELEASED LAST MONTH SHOWS A DROP IN THE NUMBER OF HOMELESS PEOPLE TO ABOUT 400. A 20-18 LISTING BY THE COUNTY INDICATED 200 PEOPLE WHO WERE PREVIOUSLY HOMELESS ARE NOW BEING HOUSED.
OFFICIALS SAY ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THE DROP COULD BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE HOUSING AUTHORITY INCREASING SECTION EIGHT VOUCHERS BY FOUR PERCENT IN THE LAST TWO YEARS.
