santa cruz healthcare center has fined by california state regulators after a patient experienced kidney failure after a medication error. the california department of public health imposed the 15-thousand dollar fine on the nursing home, after health care workers failed to conduct daily kidney tests on a patient as ordered by a doctor. the patient experienced higher potassium levels than normal, and suffered subsequent kidney failure. along with the fine, santa cruz healthcare center is following a plan of correction, which includes training the staff in new procedures.
