Santa Cruz County Health officials are reminding people to get vaccinated for measles. That’s because of some new cases of measles in the San Francisco Bay Area. Although county health says there’s a low risk of getting measles in general…..the disease is considered to be “highly contagious”. According to the Center For Disease Control And Prevention, measles starts with a fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes and a sore throat….and then is followed by a rash that spreads over the body….beginning at the hairline on the face spreading downward. 2 or 3 days after symptoms begin, white spots may appear in the mouth. A person’s fever may spike as high as 104 degrees when the rash appears.
