Santa Cruz police arrested a San Jose man following an altercation early Sunday morning. Shortly after 2:30 a-m police responded to the 14 hundred block of Ocean Street to reports of a fight at a motel. At the scene investigators determined that a 43 year old Jamaican man had been attacked by 32 year old Cody Chavez of San Jose. . During the attack, Chavez used racial epithets towards the victim. The victim was transported to a trauma center with non life threatening injuries. Chavez was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail with hate crime enhancements.
