SC decriminalizes “Magic Mushrooms” 01-28-20 03:37 DC

By a unanimous vote, the Santa Cruz City Council last night passed a resolution telling local police not to enforce laws related to the use, possession, and cultivation of psychoactive plants, sometimes called magic mushrooms.

Under terms of the resolution, the investigation and arrest of people 21 years and older who use or possess or grow the plants and fungi would become a lowest priority for Santa Cruz police.

Although no one in opposition gave public comments during Tuesday night’s meeting, concern had earlier been expressed about the potential abuse of the substances and the possibility of young people becoming involved with them.
