At about 7:45 a.m. this mornin, a tsunami reached the Santa Cruz County coast causing roughly 2 million dollars in damages in the Santa Cruz Small Craft Harbor. Preliminary reports say 2 docks and 3 vessels sustained major damage, and a number of other vessels received minor damage. A proclamation of a local emergency has been declared by the Director of Emergency Services. An evacuation advisory is STILL in effect and all beaches are closed. All residents are asked to stay away from coastal areas until given the go-ahead by authorities. Residents are advised to call 211 for information on evacuation areas. 211 operators will also know when the all-clear sign has been given.
