At their meeting on Tuesday night, Santa cruz county supervisors approved a ban of plastic bags in unincorporated areas in the county, as well as a tax on paper bags. The law goes into effect next year, and prohibits single-use plastic bags at grocery stores, restaurants, and convenience stores. In addition, paper bags will be taxed at 10-cents-per-bag. The fee will rise to 25-cents in 2013. the vote on the measure was unanimous.
