Since late April, every dead person that comes through the Santa Cruz County Coroner’s office has been tested for COVID-19.
The coroner’s staff has also tested some bodies dating back to January to find out whether COVID was active in Santa Cruz before we realized it.
In April, a test in Santa Clara County showed that a San Jose woman, who died in early February, was the first person in the United States known to die of COVID-19.
