The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office is reporting a rise in methamphetamine related deaths. The office has examined 25 meth overdose deaths between January and August this year. Compared to 10 deaths in all of last year, and 3 fatal overdoses back in 2009. The department also says several of the deceased were in their 70’s and 80’s. The Sheriff’s office plans to release a new strategy for combating the situation early next year.
