A PEDESTRIAN WHO WAS HIT BY A SANTA CRUZ METRO BUS NEAR THE DOWNTOWN TRANSIT STATION YESTERDAY, IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION. POLICE SAY THE 76-YEAR OLD MAN SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES TO HIS LEGS DURING THE 1:40 P.M. INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED AT PACIFIC AVENUE AND CATHCART STREET. THE DRIVER OF THE BUS HAS BEEN PLACED ON PAID LEAVE DURING THE INVESTIGATION, AND SO FAR NO CRIMINAL CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED AGAINST HIM. A METRO SPOKESPERSON SAYS THERE WERE NO PASSENGERS ON BOARD THE BUS DURING THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE COLLISION IS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION.
