Among other business, the santa cruz city council unanimously passed a new budget tuesday. However this one is tentative as well, because the 69-point-8-million-dollar budget assumes that the city’s largest employee-bargaining group will agree to compensation reductions, (worth 1-point-2-million dollars this year). Even if the budget is accurate, it leaves city leaders with a 1-million-dollar deficit, which they plan to re-examine in December. the city council also voted to keep the city’s redevelopment agency functioning. the governor’s plan gives local agencies the ability to remain, but with increased payments to schools and the state.
