Multiple fire crews responded to a structure fire last night in Santa Cruz. The blaze broke out at a residence on the 400 block of Bay Street at 7:40 after reports of a rug on fire was said to have caused the fire to spread. Investigations revealed the fire was started by a rug, which had been placed over a floor furnace that turned on automatically in response due the cold weather. The blaze caused an estimated $100,000 worth in damages. No one was home during the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.
