Vandals attempted to highlight the hypodermic needle problem in Santa Cruz. At this time it is unknown who is responsible for modifying the giant fishing pole art that adorns the Water Street Bridge on Friday. 5 foot long replicas of the needles that are routinely found in parks and beaches after being discarded by drug users were found attached to the hooks on the end of the poles. Anti needle activists groups have denied involvement and state that modifying an artists work is not the proper way to highlight the issue.
